Learning Objectives: Awareness of Q-PCR procedures currently available, Q-PCR sample preparation and primer design, applicability of various Q-PCR protocols to various experimental needs. Deeper understanding of Q-PCR theory and practical limitations. Insight into understanding the quantitation of purified DNA and QC of DNA preparations and developing the ability to interpret Q-PCR assays. Ability to critically assess scientific literature utilizing various Q-PCR methodologies. Required Materials: Minimum Age: 18 Undergraduates: Major in a chemical, physical, biological sciences and approval of advisor (determination of sufficient background knowledge, competence and commitment). Successful completion EHS mandated classes Laboratory Safety 101, Right to know and Bloodborne Pathogens. Postgraduates: Approval of advisor or Primary Investigator (determination of sufficient background knowledge, competence, and commitment). Successful completion EHS mandated classes Laboratory Safety 101, Right to know and Bloodborne Pathogens. Employees: Approval of Primary Investigator (determination of sufficient background knowledge, competence, and commitment). Successful completion EHS mandated classes Laboratory Safety 101, Right to know and Bloodborne Pathogens.| Faculty/Prof: Interest and Commitment to complete 3 – 4 two-hour sessions.
