Learning Objectives: Identify, explain, and contrast the differences between American formal and informal writing. Identify and explain the organizational structure and the component parts of an academic research paragraph. Identify and explain the expectations that American readers have for an academic research paragraph. Produce original written texts that appropriately use the organization, style, and language of the writing types chosen for your course. Judge the appropriateness of sample written texts as representations of an academic research paragraph. Summarize source texts without plagiarizing using APA style in-text citations. Select information from source texts to support ideas in an academic research paragraph. Incorporate summarized references to source texts into academic research paragraphs appropriately.
