Learning Objectives: Communication Skills o compose written academic texts that demonstrate effective organization, coherence, cohesion and “adequate” support (developed/well-developed). o summarize academic articles using appropriate coherence, cohesion and vocabulary o demonstrate the ability to integrate the ideas of others into your own writing without plagiarizing. o use appropriate APA styles in regards to in-text citations. o select appropriate academic information from a limited selection of sources that is relevant to the writer’s position. o synthesize information from multiple sources into in-class and out-of-class essays. o follow a process approach to academic writing for a variety of contexts. Collaboration & Leadership Skills o demonstrate the ability to analyze the articles in depth by working cooperatively with other learners in discussion groups. o demonstrate the ability to analyze the articles in depth by working cooperatively with other learners in discussion groups. Critical Thinking & Literacy Skills o Identify and explain the organizational structure and the component parts of an academic research writing. o identify the main idea, including implied main ideas, of native-speaker texts. o distinguish between main idea and sub ideas of texts produce an outline of texts. demonstrating the main ideas and key details including meaningful and accurate information. o explain ideas and information presented in texts.
