It helps people use products, materials, and documents, facilitating many types of tasks. This type of communication is practical in nature but also requires creative thinking, critical thinking, and a high level of problem-solving and social/interpersonal skills. Technical Communication in this course will provide you with skill sets, attitudes, and an understanding of professional communication and conventions. This course is informed by the needs of students, educators, business, and society at large. Technical Communication has the following aims: To foster a view of writing as situated action (people acting through writing within organizations) To foster communication practices that demand a consideration of ethics To create contexts for writing that are real and sophisticated (through the use of cases, real clients, and community organizations) understand and apply theoretical principles in technical communication To learn and implement principles of effective document design To consider the influences of disciplines, professions, and organizational settings on technical communication To gain familiarity with requirements of selected technical genres To participate in collaborative planning and executing of a project To practice preparing and delivering oral presentations of technical information To sharpen research practices Required Materials: Technical Communication. 6th edition.
